Item Description
An impressive 6.5 cm terminated sapphire crystal is beautifully set on the spare matrix of micaceous schist with sapphire. This is a RARITY from the famous mining district known for lapis lazuli, and less commonly for sodalite and lazurite crystals. The lustrous sharp tabular tapered hexagonal crystal is mottled deep blue and off-white. The Koksha Valley is famed for its ancient deposits (8000 years) of lapis lazuli=lazurite=Hauyne. White areas have orange to modest reddish-pink LW UV fluoresence. Ex Will Heierman Collection, a well-known Houston corundum specialist. An outstanding example, seldom on the market in this quality for this style. Valued $1000-1500.
