Sapphire Carving

Item Description

This is an interesting and unusual Sapphire carving from Tanzania. It somewhat resembles a pill bug or a roly poly, but the most interesting aspect is that it shows different colors when lit from different directions. When it's backlit, the carving shows more of a golden yellow hue, but in reflected light, you can clearly see a soft mauve color. We've done our best to illustrate this unusual coloring in the photos, but it honestly has to be seen in person. This is certainly an odd carving, as I can't remember seeing another Sapphire like it from Tanzania.
