Item Description
This is a really beautiful Sapphire from a recent find in Madagascar. These specimens have exceptional euhedral form, the crystals are amazingly bright and colorful, plus they are all remarkably lustrous for the species. This particular specimen features sharp, rather lustrous, modified, pinkish-purple Sapphire crystals measuring up to 1.6 cm smartly sitting on a dark Mica schist matrix. Additionally, there are two cinnamon colored crystals on the piece that I think could be Grossular Garnet, but I'm not 100% certain. They don't look like anything I've seen from this locality before. For both size and quality, this is one of the better examples of the recently found Corundums from Madagascar. It is good quality for the species, especially because the crystals are so lustrous and sharp and is hardly rounded like many other Corundum specimens from other localities, plus the fact that it is on matrix, makes it a very impressive specimen. Most people probably haven't seen these pieces, but take my word for it, this is a good Sapphire specimen. All of the Sapphires from this area display color-change properties from sun to indoor lighting. In LED light it's more of bluish-purple color and changes to a more of a pinkish color in halogen lighting, and more blue in sunlight. This piece has great fluorescent properties as well. In my opinion, these are some of the most intriuging and beautiful minerals to come from Madagascar. A great display piece from this isolated discovery. Priced at $500.
