Item Description

The label accompanying this specimen says "Chilas", but it could be from another locality as Chilas is the administrative centre of Diamar District, so some specimens ascribed to Chilas may actually be from elsewhere in the district. It features a sharp, well-formed, tapered, hexagonal, purplish crystal of Sapphire on mica schist matrix. The crystal measures 4.9 cm long, and actually shows a cool pinkish color at the termination, which is gemmy when backlit! Hard to find from Pakistan, and certainly a worthwhile Sapphire display specimen on a worldwide scale. Valued at $900.
