Item Description

Some of you might have seen this remarkable material on the market recently. This stone is from a new find of Sapphires from the Umba Valley in Tanzania, where some of the most vivid and colorful Sapphire gems are found. This stone has an intense, royal purple hue, which is rather rare in gem world. There are only a few stones that produce with amazingly rich purple shade (e.g., Amethyst and Spinel), and it's certainly uncommon in Sapphires. I have to believe that this stone was heated to strengthen the color, which is perfectly common and accepted practice in the gem world.. This gem has some very very slight inclusions, and would make a great addition to a Sapphire suite, or could be set into jewelry. The cut on this gem is a "Marquise" cut.
