Here we have a classic dark blue Sapphire from Sri Lanka. This island nation has been the largest producer of fine gem quality Sapphires for many years, and virtually every color of the rainbow has been seen from the Ratnapura area. With that said, the hue that most people associate with the material is blue. Here we have a dark inky blue color "Step Oval" cut stone with some visible inclusions, but with strong backlighting, it shows a strong color. Sapphire is the birthstone for September, and this would make a great gift for somebody with a birthday in that month.
