Item Description
A striking and sculptural, large specimen of calcite scalenohedrons included with sand from a difunct South Dakota locale, Rattlesnake Butte (Devils Hill) near Interior. The crystals grew in the Miocene sand matrix. You can even see the prominent horizontal bedding planes in the sandstone in the end-on view! A very artistic and pristine 360-degree specimen. It looks like a submarine with the conning tower on steroids! Ex Al Ordway Collection. Old material seldom seen today in this quality.
