Item Description

MINDAT does not list euxenite-(Y) for Yancey County, but does list samarskite-(Y), a similar REE oxide found in pegmatites. It is VERY RARE from the six Yancey County localities listed by MINDAT for the species. These are large, blocky, black crystals intergrown in a vein section and accented with contrasting feldspar. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and formerly in the Joe Urban Collection of Tucson, who listed the piece as samarskite (which was probably the correct ID to begin with), according to Bob's label. Hefty and rich REE material for its size at 240 grams.
