Item Description

An outstanding collection of 15 thumbnails of twinned rutile crystals from historic Hiddenite, North Carolina. The beautiful wine-red crystals are highly lustrous and striated. The different forms of the twins are fascinating. They resemble ancient Middle Eastern cuneiform writing! This is classic, old-time, seldom available and highly desirable material from the Dr. Ed David and Robert Nowakowski Collections. Ed was Science Advisor to President Nixon and assembled several world-class mineral collections. These rutiles were painstakingly put together over many years, and Ed says he remembers buying them on site in North Carolina in the 1950s. I found them in a showbox in his closet when buying his collection back in 2006 or so. The specimens come in a glass-covered picture frame box. The box is 13.1 x 10.5 x 0.7 cm.
