This unique specimen is truly a piece with geometric precision. A stunning thin complex cluster, 5.2 x 3.2 x 0.3 cm, of lustrous, dramatically cross-hatched rutile needles is beautifully set in the sculptural matrix of contrasting feldspar with a well-placed 2.2 cm patch of pearlescent lepidolite for accent. Sagenite is the term for such striking rutile crystal clusters and means either "net" from Greek or Latin or a variety of twinned rutile (MINDAT). Clusters of this size are so very rare, especially in this condition. Classic and outstanding matrix Rutile from the well-known pegmatites of the Diamantina area. We have not seen another matrix example of this size and quality. This has to be fairly valued at $5000-plus, if you saw one so good on the market today. It has a presence, a structure to it, that commands attention.
