Rutile (new find)

Item Description

A wonderful Rutile specimen from a new discovery (2021) at Diamantina. This piece is a notably thick, well-formed, sharp, lustrous, prismatic, dark silvery-black colored crystal, free of matrix. You don't typically see Rutile crystals of this thickness from any Brazilian locality, and this isn't a "chunk" of Rutile, but rather a fine quality crystal. The pyramidal termination has smooth well-formed faces, which is a stark contrast to the striations that run along the prism. There are a few minor nicks on the upper portion of the crystal, and it's contacted on the base where it was removed from the pocket wall, but it's still a very good example of a well-known species that is found all over Brazil, but rarely in examples like this.
