Rutile in matrix

These sharp Rutiles from Graves Mountain are a modern classic from the USA and are actually hard to obtain in this good of quality in matrix. By modern, we mean mostly collected up through the 1980s and not much of note since then...and this seems an older style. This single, untwinned Rutile is emplaced aesthetically on matrix and exhibits a rich brown-red color with almost a metallic luster. It has sharply developed crystal faces and edges and measures 2.5 cm across and is half embedded in the matrix. Superb luster here! It's a nicely composed piece with the Rutile placed centrally on the colorful, sparking matrix that has variegated red-brown and orange-brown iron oxide staining for great contrast. Some of the sharper shapes in the matrix might be kyanite crystals, stained or coated by iron. Most surviving crystals we see for sale are not in matrix.
