The Rutile crystals from Graves Mountain are some of the finest examples of the species from any locality in the Western Hemisphere. This miniature sized piece features a very good quality, classic Rutile crystal from this famous locality. The crystal has very sharp, highly lustrous faces that show a metallic, silvery-reddish color with excellent penetrating twinned faces. This eye catching piece is a great example of this well known (and increasingly hard to find) material. The faces of the crystals are notably smooth and well-formed, with none of the undesirable surface crazing that is sometimes seen with these pieces. The lower edge is contacted, but the termination is superb and looks beautiful in person. Priced at $1,500. The piece comes from the Doxsee collection. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
