Item Description
Rutiles from the Champion Mine are among the best crystallized examples of the species from the United States. This rare and attractive matrix specimen features a distinct of Rutile crystal measuring 1.1 cm perched atop contrasting Pyrophyllite matrix and comes from the classic California locality. The Rutile crystal is quite sharp, lustrous and well-formed with a deep metallic reddish-black hue. It would be considered, for the sharpness and the aesthetics, to be a very worthwhile specimen from this remote mine. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1587). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
