Item Description

An exceptional, brilliant, well-formed, rich brown-red crystal of Rutile from the famous Graves Mountain locality in Georgia! This is a sharp and very large penetration-twinned Rutile crystal complete all around save for the contact at its base where it was removed from the rock matrix. The brilliant, submetallic luster on this piece is amazing as are the dark red-brown internal reflections that are obvious in ambient lighting but much more pronounced when lit by a strong light source! Edges are very sharp and without edge wear as typical of many of these crystals. A very fine piece! A great twinned Rutile from this classic US locality accompanied by a Hansen Minerals label. Gary Hansen private collection. Valued $165 in the early 1980s when he retired. Today, closer to $1000-1200
