Item Description

The Rutile crystals from Graves Mountain are some of the finest examples of the species from any locality in the Western Hemisphere. This small cabinet specimen is a very good quality, classic Rutile from this famous locality The main crystal measures 2.6 cm with rather sharp, highly lustrous faces that show a metallic, reddish color which is associated with a few smaller fine quality blocky Rutiles on matrix. Rarely are these Rutile crystals seen on matrix, and this eye catching piece is a great example of this well known (and increasingly hard to find) material. There are some nicks here and there, so the piece is not 100% perfect, but the faces of the crystals are notably smooth and well-formed, with one of the undesirable surface crazing that is sometimes seen with these pieces. Priced at $1,000. The piece comes with an old dealer label from John McDonald of Hope, New Jersey.
