Item Description
Here we have a showy display specimen of these fine quality and classic Rutile crystals from Graves Mountain in Georgia, which are some of the finest examples of the species from any locality in the Western Hemisphere. These specimens are not only easily recognizable, they also have a distinctive appearance, pieces can often featured larger than average sized crystals. This small cabinet-sized specimen features several rather sharp crystals with notably lustrous faces that show a metallic, silvery-reddish color measuring up to 5.2 cm, free of matrix. There is some visible damage, but it's still an eye-catching piece, and a showy example of this well known (and increasingly hard to find) material. The faces of the Rutile crystal are notably smooth and well-formed, with none of the undesirable surface crazing that is sometimes seen with these pieces.
Ex Shields Flynn collection.
