Item Description
The area around Hiddenite, North Carolina is famous for its beautiful green Spodumene crystals (literally named "Hiddenite" after the town) along with excellent Emeralds, but there are many other minerals found in the area. This large toenail / small miniature sized specimen hosts a single GEM quality, colorless Quartz crystal which plays host to thin prismatic crystals of blood-red Rutile along with tiny metallic silvery-black colored crystals of Hematite, which are either sitting on the surface of the Quartz, or actually included inside. When backlit, the color of the Rutile crystals really comes through. The label accompanying the specimen states it's from the Adams Farm locality, and was collected by "Red" Teitzel of Conover, North Carolina in the 1970s. It was later sold by Terry Leford in January of 2002. A good representative piece that would make a great addition to any Quartz or Rutile suite, or a collection of minerals from North Carolina.
