Item Description

This specimen is part of the 2020 Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium benefit auction, with proceeds benefiting Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, and mindat.org. Thanks to all of our participants!

Billing for this auction will occur on Monday, August 24, for payment using PayPal or credit card. Shipping will be billed at cost, or please contact brandy@mineralauctions.com if you'd like to plan on picking up items at future shows or during a stop through Dallas.

An excellent ring-sized stone with high level of polish and a brilliant lustrous, bright, visible inclusion of a rutle "starburst" inside the quartz. The rutile is nucleated around a hematite crystal at the core. Interestingly, these are now thought to be around 500 million years old (see attached note). Donated by Brian and Kendra Cook, Nature's Geometry Inc. specimen and photos. They own the mine that produced this gorgeous material, and operate in a village and community-friendly sustainable mining partnership, down in Brazil. See Brian's previous talk for the 2019 Symposium year, posted online at www.DallasSymposium.org.
Valued $250.
