Item Description
Splendent, jet-black to metallic-gray sphalerite crystals to 2.6 cm comprise this showy and excellent plate from the historic mines at Phoenixville. Many of the crystals have striking stepped-growth faces and the preferential coatings of quartz microcrystals adds character. The presentation face is in super shape. The perphery and back reveal that this is high quality, partially gemmy rubyjack sphalerite. Primary ore production was from 1847-1854! Additional ore production took place from 1918-1920. Classic, rare and outstanding material from this noted locale. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection.
