Exceptional and aesthetic 360-degree sphalerite from the famous Elmwood Mine. Beautiful, splendent, gemmy/translucent/opaque, twinned rubyjack sphalerite crystals richly, dramatically and preferentially cover all sides of the sculptural, triangular wedge of siliceous limestone covered with contrasting sparkly drusy quartz. Rich hues of cherry-red and golden-yellow are visible under bright light. Even though the crystals are somewhat clustered, the isolation is significant. Renowned for world-classic calcite and fluorite, Elmwood and its nearby brothers, have also produced exceptional sphalerite and barite specimens. The material is common enough in mediocrity, but THIS pristine specimen is simply outstanding, way beyond the norm. Classic material from the Mark Kielbaso Collection and valued at $1000-plus. Mark was the manager of the specimen collecting contract at Elmwood from 1996 to 1998 and they extracted many super pieces. You know this is a good one, as it was in Mark's personal collection.
