Ruby / Zoisite (great form!)

This is very attractive and well known material, and for obvious reasons. These Ruby / Zoisite specimens were found in Tanzania in 1954 (sometimes referred to as "Anyolite" after the Massai word for green), and are very popular among collectors either as cabochons or for carvings. This piece is a fantastic "Pear Cabochon" of Ruby / Zoisite as it shows a beatiful purplish-red "spot" of Ruby slightly off-centered in the moss-green Zoisite background. A lovely pendant-sized stone of this attractive material.
