This is very attractive and well known material, but rarely does one find a piece like this. These Ruby / Zoisite specimens were found in Tanzania in 1954 (sometimes referred to as "Anyolite" after the Massai word for green), and are very popular among collectors either as cabochons or for carvings. This piece is a fantastic "Heart" cabochon cut gem of Ruby / Zoisite as it shows the hexagonal form of the Ruby crystals with green "rinds" of Zoisite. The white areas are Calcite.
