This piece is a wonderful thumbnail sized specimen of beautiful, well-formed, doubly-terminated, dark reddish-purple Ruby from the famous John Saul Mine (Rockland Mine) in Kenya. While Ruby specimens have been found in many localities in Kenya over the years, the famous John Saul Mine might be the most desirable locality for mineral collectors in the entire country. The piece shows excellent hexagonal form, and even a bit of gemminess when backlit. This is a complete "floater" crystal, with no damage or point of attachment. A really attractive thumbnail sized piece of Ruby from this historic locality. Under long wave UV light, the piece glows with a vivid red color.
