Item Description
Vivid orange to bright pinkish-red fluorescence on this well-placed pair of ruby crystals atop the mounded marble matrix. The stout, pretty pink, tabular, hexagonal crystals reach 3.1 cm and have lightly frosted faces and are interestingly etched. This showy and excellent small cabinet piece is from an ancient locality in North Macedonia. The marble quarries here date back to at around 500 BCE and were at full peak during Roman times (MINDAT). The rubies glow when backlit. Matrix specimens of this quality with translucent crystals are rarely available and this is a very fine example. Matrix specimens are uncommon and this, as a display quality piece, all the more so.
