Item Description
An important freestanding miniature-sized crystal for this locality. The ancient marble quarries here date back to at around 500 BCE and were at full peak during Roman times. Even then, rubies were found. Specimens have always been uncommon in good size and without damage, however; and this is a pristine, stout, tabular, hexagonal crystal with pretty pinkish-red color and moderate luster. The back and one edge have a light marble coating. The translucent crystal glows when back lit and has stunning neon-orange to cherry-red fluorescence. A fine example from the classic old locality and rarely seen today. Mass is 40 grams.
