Item Description
The Ruby crystals from Mysore, India are some of the most well-known examples of the material in the world. They are often found in sharp, euhedral crystals, typically measuring up to around 5 cm. This crystal is notably large for the material, both is dimensions and in heft as it nearly weighs half a kilo! It is well-formed, with broad, lustrous, striated hexagonal faces on both pinacoids, and features that classic beautiful purplish-red color. The crystal is opaque for all intents and purposes, but there is a slight amount of translucency on the edges when backlit. There is a bit of roughness around the periphery, but overall, the crystal is mostly complete and certainly doubly-terminated. You would be hard pressed to find another Ruby this size from Mysore with such excellent crystal faces, color and completeness these days. Specimen weight is 430 grams. Classic material, and a must have for any fan of gem crystals or worldwide Corundum. Valued at $3,500 for the impressive size and quality.
