Item Description
In the past 10 years or so, we've seen some fine quality Rubies coming out of Mozambique, which are very comparable to their much more famous cousins from Myanmar (Burma). The size, color and quality of these gems makes them very desirable for a marketplace that is already starving for top tier Ruby gems. This "step oval" cut gem has a gorgeous deep glowing red color, and is certainly gem quality in clarity. It should be noted that this stone is glass-filled, which is a technique used to improve the clarity of Rubies, and is an acceptable practice so long as the buyer is aware that they are buying a glass-filled stone. A great stone to set into jewelry or to make a new addition to your gem collection. Rubies are some of the most beloved and valuable gems in the world, and are famously the birthstone for July. The stone gets its name from the Latin word ruber, which means "red". Ruby is referenced four times in the Bible, and in the Sanskrit language ruby is called ratnaraj, or "king of precious stones". One of my favorite pieces of Ruby lore is that warriors in Burma (now Myanmar) used to insert Rubies into their skin and make them permanent parts of their bodes to give them strength in battle.
