Item Description
The Rubies from Jagdalak are among some of the most well known, classic and superbly crystallized matrix Ruby specimens around. This specimen features a remarkably sharp, very well formed, lustrous, "pigeon-blood" color crystal with great form on a mixed marble/Mica/Pyrite matrix. The 9 mm crystal is not at all opaque as the majority of these specimens tend to be, and as you can see from the photos, the color just glows when the crystal is backlit. A beautiful display specimen that could probably be trimmed down to a knockout thumbnail. I realize that the crystal resembles a Spinel due to it's "octahedral" or somewhat rhombohedral form, but rest assured, this is in fact a Ruby crystal, it only looks octahedral due to the way it rests on the matrix. The crystal has notable striations on one of the faces, which is a clear sign of Corundum, as Spinels are never striated. Lastly, as with many Rubies, this crystal does a slight color shift from a pinkish-red in sunlight to more of a purplish-pink color under halogen lighting. Valued at $1500 in the inventory for quality, color and sharpness, and the fact that it's smartly sitting on matrix.
