Item Description
Gem quality Ruby stones from Myanmar are one of the most celebrated gems in the world. It is well-known that the majority of the finest faceted Rubies in the world are found in the Mogok area. This gem has an attractive rich pinkish-red color, and is certainly gem quality in clarity as it only has very slight inclusion. It has an "Oval Step" cut, which is typical for the material . These are absolutely some of the most popular Rubies in the world. It's an older gem from a few decades ago, so it's POSSIBLE that this has NOT been glass-filled, but I need to put that caveat out there just in case. PLEASE NOTE: Under a 10x loupe, I can see some micro chipping along the girdle, so please keep this in mind when bidding. If the stone was set into a pendant or ring, the micro chipping would not be visible. With the recent civil unrest, and the effects of the global pandemic in Myanmar, it's a good idea to scoop up these Rubies now because they will likely be going up in price moving forward. The market in Mogok is completely shut down, and nothing has come out for some time. For the size, color and clarity, I would put a retail price on this stone around $800 per carat. This stone is from the estate of former Phoenix area dealer Marvin Rockey. Rockey's Gems was a significant business in the early days of Arizona lapidary material, and he was a prominent dealer and buyer in the Arizona area of local lapidary and carving material from throughout the state, including Bisbee, the Ray Mine, Miami mines, and the Peridot finds on Indian lands in the 1950s-1970s. This stone was kept back from the retail stock for its quality and beauty, in a tray of special material, and was found in his estate (sold to us only recently). Today, these are not only rarely seen but of a highly desirable old quality, and sought after by collectors and gem / jewelry enthusiasts alike.
