Item Description

Ruby is one of the most recognized gems in the world. It ubiquitous in countless cultures and has been treasured by collectors for millennia. The material has been called the "Gem of Kings" and was believed to grant invulnerability and success in business to its owners. Outside of the famous specimen from Mogok, Myanmar, some of the best crystallized examples are the renowned specimens from Jagdalak, Afghanistan. Ruby is one of those minerals that is incredibly difficult to find specimens featuring good quality crystals on matrix like this piece. The crystal on this specimen is good quality, but it's also UN-REPAIRED, which makes the piece even more desirable, as many of them are often glued back on the matrix. This specimen features a sharp, well formed, lustrous, rich purplish-pink colored trigonal crystal measuring 1.0 cm long sitting beautifully on a off-white colored marble matrix with minor Phlogopite mica on the back. A fine Ruby specimen from a locality that is not producing nearly as many good pieces as it did 15-20 years ago. Priced at $850 in the inventory.
