Item Description
A lovely group of fairly sharp hexagonal Ruby crystals free of matrix from the famous Hunza Valley in Pakistan. The piece shows a strong purplish-pink color and GLOWS with color when backlit. You can see some defined crystal faces, along with some amorphous areas on nearly every side. I think the piece was completely etched out of Calcite / marble, but for the size and weight (29.11 grams), it's a noteworthy solid specimen of Ruby. This locality is famous for its beautiful Ruby specimens and they are in short supply these days, as I have not seen many of them on the market compared to 10-15 years ago. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11939). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
