Item Description
Mount Mica is an important and historic pegmatite locality in Maine, famous for its superb Tourmalines. This famed early gem locality was one of the first of its kind in the United States, dating back to the early 1800s. It is because of places like Mount Mica that Tourmaline was selected as the state mineral, and collectors are always on the hunt for fine specimens. Here we have a wonderful, GEM quality, rich cranberry colored, doubly-terminated "floater" crystal of Rubellite from the this renowned locality, weighing 4.40 carats (0.88 grams). One end has a dark, semi-fibrous looking termination, while the other end has was almost looks like a "nodule"-esque termination. Beautiful, classic material that would make a great addition to any thumbnail suite or a collection of gem crystals, or specifically minerals of Maine.
Ex Shields Flynn collection.
