Tourmalines are beloved by dealers and collectors for their intense colors in various shades. Nigeria has produced some top quality Tourmalines for many years, including some of the finest gem grade Rubellite to come out of any country. Here we have a superb Rubellite Tourmaline with excellent size, top color and great cutting. The stone is virtually eye clean with a glowing cranberry hue and an "emerald" cut. The fact that this stone is so clean is a big deal because Tourmaline is classified as a Type-3 gemstone, which means that inclusions are almost always present and are accepted by dealers and collectors, so a clean gem like this is a real treat. The rough from which this stone was faceted came out of the ground around 20 years ago. Fine Rubellites can retail as high as $1,000 per carat on the high end gem market. It should be noted that this material seems to have dried up in recent years, and good gems with the fiery pink color like this stone are becoming much more difficult to find these days.
