While Tourmalines from Afghanistan, Brazil, Mozambique, Nigeria and DR Congo are celebrated for their wonderful color and quality, the material from Newry, Maine maintains a fairly low profile, despite the fact that tops stones are every bit as good as anything you'll find from anywhere else in the world. The limited quantity of material from Newry on the market contributes to its lack of publicity, but the best stones are truly world-class. This gem is a beautiful Rubellite with a rich cranberry-pink hue. Yes, there are some visible inclusions, but keep in mind that Tourmaline is a ype-3 gemstone which means that inclusions in the stones are acceptable in the trade for collectors and dealers. With that said, it is very difficult to find a "clean" Tourmaline that is over a carat, especially from Newry. This stone has a standard "Oval Cabochon" cut and it glows with saturated color.
