Item Description
Rubellite Tourmaline is the varietal name given to red or pink Tourmaline gems (the name comes from the Latin word rubellus, meaning "reddish", and first was applied to Tourmalines in 1794), though I've seen gems with orange and even brownish hues labeled as Rubellite. GIA mentions on their website that there are some people in the gem world that feel lighter pink Tourmalines should not be referred to as Rubellite, as that particular hue isn't close enough to red to qualify as Rubellite. With that said, this stone has a very desirable glowing saturated reddish-pink hue, certainly what everyone would agree should be called Rubellite. The stone has a "Pear" cut with only very slight inclusions. A beautiful gem with excellent color that would make a fine center stone for a pendant or an addition to your gem collection.
