Rubellite & Lepidolite - JONAS POCKET ex Jack Halpern Collection

One of mineral history's greatest mineral discoveries was the newly-opened gem red Jonas Mine Pocket in Brazil in 1978. Fabulous, cranberry-red Rubellite Tourmalines, of all sizes, highlighted this find. This small cabinet specimen is from that ultra-famous pocket, and it features a virtual cloud of Lepidolite books (think of a nebula floating around the gems) laced with a dozen or so gemmy Rubellites. These beautiful crystals are lustrous, gemmy, some are terminated, and the main Tourmaline crystal is a full 4.2 cm: This Rubellite is positioned perfectly right down the middle of the cluster, and it has a rich color and gemmy termination with wonderful internal reflections. You would be hard-pressed to find a more attractive, and available, specimen from this amazing, literally iconic discovery. Just to give you an idea, the original price for this outstanding specimen was $6,500 that Jack himself paid not too long ago when he bought it from the Mike Groben collection dispersal !
