Item Description

This specimen is labeled as coming from "Sulphur Mountain" in Ventura County, California, but I can't find a listing for the specific locality, and the piece closely resembles other's I've seen labeled as coming from the Unspecified Offshore Drill Hole locality (in the Pacific Ocean) in Ventura County, California. Rosickýite is a rare form of crystallized Sulfur (sometimes it's called Gamma Sulfur), which is actually more stable / dense than the more common Sulfur (alpha) or Sulfur (beta). The species was named in 1931 after Vojtĕch Rosický, who was the former Director of the Mineralogical and Petrological Institute of Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. This piece is loaded with dozens if not hundreds of micro crystals of brilliant, pale yellow Rosickýite scattered all over the host rock matrix.
