Item Description

The first Rose Quartz crystals known in the world were found at Mount Mica Quarry in Maine about 1913-1915. The second locality for genuine rose quartz crystals in the world, the Dunton Gem Quarry, Newry, produced its first crystals in 1927. A third world locality was discovered in 1942, at the Rose Quartz Crystal locality, by George Crooker. Rose Quartz crystals were found at the Nevel Quarry, Newry and in the Red Hill Quarry Group, Rumford, Maine in 1949. Rose Quartz crystals were not known in Brazil until 1958 (MINDAT). As such, rose quartz was EXTREMELY RARE and desirable prior to the Brazil finds in 1958. Even then, high quality, sharply crystallized specimens with rich color have never been abundant and remain highly desirable. This is an outstanding old-timer from the Rose Quartz Crystal locality, recovered soon after the discovery there. Beautiful, sharp, gemmy, pretty light pink crystals to about 5-6 mm are aesthetically and very richly clustered on the sculptural albite matrix. Classic, desirable and very fine older material from an East Coast collection. Comes with a Hugh Ford label dating from 1946-57. The piece has two fine display views. Validated specimens with good labels are almost NEVER for sale on the open market for USA collectors. Value is hard to say, given that fact.
