Item Description

Some of the most celebrated specimens of Rose Quartz in the world are those from the Itinga area in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This piece dates back to 1974 and represents what some consider to be the most desirable style of these specimens featuring an incredibly hard to find "halo" of soft pink Rose Quartz surrounding the termination of the underlying Quartz crystal. For an example, the following photo is of one of the most well-known specimens in the world, and features the same exact style as the piece we're offering here (https://www.mindat.org/photo-184333.html). I love the fact that the Rose Quartz "halo" is complete all the way around, but it doesn't cover very much of the stout Quartz crystal underneath, so you can clearly see the two different kinds of Quartz regardless of the angle from which the piece is viewed. This piece was personally acquired by Richard Kosnar at the Ilha Claim (which is a famous pegmatite located on a small island in the Jequitinhonha River), and he was actually the first US dealer to import minerals from this locality. The piece remained in Kosnar's personall collection until his death, and is now avaiable for any of you Quartz enthusiasts or Brazilian mineral fans. Priced at $1,200 in the inventory.
