Rose Quartz ex Kidwell

Although large Rose Quartz crystals are rare in nature, this piece has a few notably big crystals for this Quartz variety! From one of the classic Brazilian localities for Rose Quartz, this small cabinet piece consists of a grouping of transparent to translucent, elongate to flattened Rose Quartz crystals with good color, luster and terminations. The crystals are well-formed on the front side displaying numerous growth features on the prism faces of the larger crystals with one measuring an amazing 7.7 cm in length and nearly doubly terminated (it coats an underlying elongated clear quartz)! The other Rose Quartz crystals tightly clustered in the center of the piece are smaller, but have stronger color, averaging about 1 cm in length. The backside of the piece has more crudely developed crystal forms with a milky Quartz area and a small Muscovite crystal. Acquired in 1966. From the diverse and historic collection of one of the great field collectors and mineralogists of mid-1900s Texas, Albert Kidwell of Houston (1919-2008), after whom the mineral Kidwellite is named.
