Item Description

A cool association specimen from the famous Hagendorf locality in Bavaria, one of the most well-known phosphate-producing pegmatite localities in the world. This piece features a rich group of dark greenish-black Rockbridgeite, which is Fe2+ analogue of Frondelite, typically found in pegmatites. The associated pink mineral is Hureaulite, which is a rare association as far as I can tell. After a glance on mindat.org, I couldn't find another Rockbridgeite with listed associated Hureaulite, so if you collect phosphate minerals or specimens from Hagendorf, this is a cool piece to add to your collection. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974 ( https://www.mindat.org/photo-326405.html ).
