Item Description
A rich and showy cinnabar specimen, from the 40m Level of this ancient mercury mine, that closed in 1939. Scintillating brick-red cinnabar microcrystals richly cover the front and part of the back of the sculptural hefty massive cinnabar ore matrix. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3238 and acquired from a German dealer in the early 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Documented specimens from this mine are RARE, as MINDAT features no specimens in the locality Photo Gallery. Rich hefty mercury ore at 224 grams mass.
