Rhodonite with Galena (classic material)

Item Description

Broken Hill is one of the most renowned mineral localities in the history of mineral collecting. Historians give credit to Broken Hill's contribuation for early prosperity in the Australia mining industry. Some of the most beloved and fine quality specimens from Broken Hill are the classic Rhodonites, the best of which which are the finest examples of the species in the mineral world. Most Rhodonite crystals from around the world are typically opaque and pink, but the Broken Hill specimens are GEMMY and fiery in color. Euhedral, gemmy crystals from Broken Hill are not easy to find these days on the market, and they are certainly sought after by collectors. This specimen features a robust, thick, fairly well-formed, prismatic crystals of Rhodonite with classic fiery gemmy orange color measuring up to 3.3 cm associated with grey-black Galena. This piece has some visible damage, but is still a nice representation of this old classic material. Keep in mind that the majority of these specimens were mined before 1950, and some date back as far as 1900.
