Rhodonite with Galena

Item Description

Sharp, translucent rhodonite crystals buried in galena poke out, so you can see the red against the metallic contrast, in this unique combination style foudn only at Broken Hill, a few times over its long life as a mine. These are from a special find on the 2700 level, found in the 1960s, and not since. This piece features a central crystal 3 cm tall, and partially exposed. Rhodonite like this is one of those Australian classics, we seldom see for sale anymore. We are truly honored to present this specimen from another lot of deaccessions from the collection of Jack Halpern of San Francisco, as featured in the Mineralogical Record, March 2005.
