Rhodonite slab (old)

Item Description

Old-time, colorful sawed end slab from these long extinct manganese mines. The sculptural face features massive rich pink and pastel-pink Rhodonite with two connected blobs of black to brown Manganese oxides.The two sawed lustrous faces have textured surfaces from being coated with lacquer. First worked in the 1840s, the most active mining period was 1939-1942 (MINDAT). The Schortmann's label dates prior to 1960. Ex Patricia Barker Collection. A showy and rich highly representative example of the species and locale.
