Item Description
Broken Hill is one of the great world localities, and did a great deal for the overall prosperity of Australia. Rhodonites from Broken Hill are some of the most beautiful specimens in the mineral world. Matrix specimens are rare, but to find euhedral, gemmy crystals on matrix is extremely significant. This specimen features a pair of prismatic crystals of Rhodonite with classic fiery gemmy red color when backlit sitting on contrasting silvery-grey Galena matrix. The largest Rhodonite measures 3.6 cm long. Valued at $1850 for size, quality, and the fact that there are multiple crystals on matrix. The thicker of the two bigger crystals has a slight "rub" where it was detached from the pocket wall, but not what I would consider damage. Broken Hill Rhodonites are the standard of excellence for the species, and these specimens are becoming next to impossible to obtain in today's market. Keep in mind that the majority of these specimens were mined approximately 60 years ago. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (the collection number has been removed for some reason).
