Item Description

Broken Hill has produced some of the world's finest rhodonite crystals, in a small series of finds spaced over a century. This is almost certainly from a particular find of the 1960s, known for these deep cherry red crystals embedded in massive galena. The collectors had to haul home massive blocks of galena and carefully excavate. This is a fine, representative thumbnail from that era, with good red glowing color to it. It is complete, though a little rough from contact growth to the now-removed galena (you would be rough as well if you were a couple hundred million years old and spent all that time being smashed in a lead deposit). From the award-winning thumbnail collection of Sharon and William Panczner, author of the book Minerals Of Mexico, and last seen and exhibited in the 1960s and recently rediscovered.
