Item Description
A dark pink-red, robust, single crystal of Rhodonite from the manganese mine at Conselheiro Lafaiete in Brazil. This crystal is quite large for the locality at 5.8cm and has good color and ranges from translucent to opaque. Overall, the crystal has a tapering wedge-shape with sharp edges and crystal faces. The termination is broad, sloping and geometric as are the prism faces. Many do not realize that Rhodonite is a metamorphic mineral and they tend to grown in the rock, rarely with any open space such as in the case of pegmatite minerals...no miarolitic pockets here which makes these well-formed Rhodonites special things. This piece displays very impressively and has A LOT of color, and a wide frontal surface with a good termination! From famous finds here, usually valued quite highly by both locals and mineral dealers. Some pieces have been cut into beautiful gems and cabochons, further reducing the specimen supply.
