Item Description
Garnets occupy an interesting space in the gem world, from fairly common material to notably rare. You can find Garnets in all shades, (including the rarely seen blue color), and their value is determined by their rarity in terms of species and color. This is a fine quality and eye-catching Rhodolite gem from Tanzania. For years, Rhodolite Garnets were originally defined as a variety of the species Pyrope, but nearly everybody agrees that any pink or red gem material in the Almandine-Pyrope series can be referred to as Rhodolite. They are unquestionaly some of the most vivid and beautiful gems in the Garnet family. These stones are beloved for their great color and larger size stones. The Rhodolites from Tanzania are amazingly attractive gems, and are fast becoming very popular among gem collectors, becuase you just don't get many big colorful red/pink Garnets like this from most world localities. This gem has a strong rich pink color, with very very slight inclusions. The cut on this stone is a "Quantum Round Brilliant" cut, as there are small concave facets on the pavillion, creating a bit more life/brilliance in the gem. It is an excellent stone from what is proving to be one of the premier localities in the world for the material.
